Standards and certifications for precast pile joints

European and Spanish regulatory framework applicable to structural joint systems for precast concrete piles: EN 12794, EAD 200014, CE Marking and Structural Code.

Structural joint systems for precast concrete piles are subject to a demanding regulatory framework that ensures their structural reliability, traceability, and fitness for use in civil engineering works. In Europe, the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) establishes that structural products must demonstrate compliance with essential safety requirements through harmonised standards or European Technical Assessments (ETA).

For designers, contractors, and site supervisors, understanding the applicable regulatory framework is essential to correctly specify pile joint systems and ensure the technical and legal validity of the chosen solution. Choosing a joint without the appropriate certification can compromise the validity of the project and the civil liability of the parties involved.

The DIBU SL DI-BLOCK system has completed the full technical assessment process, obtaining European Technical Assessment ETA 22/0260 issued by the Instituto Eduardo Torroja (IETcc-CSIC) and the corresponding CE Marking. The main reference standards are described below.

Reference standards and documents

EN 12794

Precast concrete products — Foundation piles

European standard that establishes performance requirements, test methods and evaluation criteria for precast concrete foundation piles. Class A of this standard is required for structural joint systems with maximum reliability. Compliance with EN 12794 Class A is mandatory for any joint system used in civil engineering and construction works in Europe.

EAD 200014-01-0103

Pile joints and rock shoes for concrete piles

European Assessment Document (EAD) specifically for pile joints and rock shoes for concrete piles. This document defines the technical framework and evaluation criteria that allow obtaining a European Technical Assessment (ETA) for pile joint systems. It establishes test methods, essential performance requirements, and parameters that must be declared to ensure conformity with the Construction Products Regulation (CPR).

ETA 22/0260

European Technical Assessment — DI-BLOCK (DIBU SL)

European Technical Assessment issued for the DIBU SL DI-BLOCK joint system, based on EAD 200014-01-0103. Issued by the Instituto Eduardo Torroja (IETcc-CSIC), a Spanish technical assessment body recognised at European level. This ETA is the enabling document for the CE Marking of the DI-BLOCK system, and certifies that the system meets the essential structural safety requirements established in the European Construction Products Regulation.

Regulation (EU) 305/2011

Construction Products Regulation (CPR)

European legal framework regulating the marketing of construction products in the EU internal market. It establishes the obligation of CE Marking for products covered by harmonised standards or European Technical Assessments. Under this regulation, precast pile joints with an ETA can bear CE Marking and circulate freely in all European markets.

Spanish Structural Code

Royal Decree 470/2021 — Structural Code

Spanish regulation governing the design, calculation and execution of concrete and steel structures. In the context of precast piles, the Structural Code recognises CE-marked joint systems compliant with the CPR as valid solutions for structural applications. The DI-BLOCK system, holding ETA 22/0260 and CE Marking, is fully valid and recognised under the Spanish Structural Code.
